Consumer Confidence Report Deadline Approaching
2008 Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR)
Due to Consumers by July 1, 2009

Recent news stories have focused on pharmaceuticals and contaminated well water making its way into the water supply.  Now more than ever, it is important to assure water consumers that the water they are drinking is safe and meets EPA standards.

Since 1999, drinking water suppliers have been required to provide annual drinking water quality reports to their customers.  The reports must be distributed to consumers by July 1st of each year.  If you have not already done so, now is the ideal time to begin pulling together the information that you will need to complete this year’s CCR.

If you use the CCR information for your water supply that is prepared by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), be sure to verify all information against your own records.  In some cases, you may need to include additional information that is not provided by IEPA.

IEPA-generated CCR data for your water supply is available at the following internet web address: www.epa.state.il.us/water/drinking-water-watch/.  The Agency data will have a new appearance from past years, due to changes in the program used to create the report.

A revised CCR Chapter (Chapter 2) of the Sample Collectors Handbook is available at the following internet web address: www.epa.state.il.us/water/compliance/drinking-water/collectors-handbook/index.html.  It is recommended that you review this chapter before beginning work on your CCR.
